It was by serendipity that I discovered how to receive answers through art. Every year, I have this ritual in which I create a drawing for the upcoming year. I ask for guidance in the next year when I draw this picture and then usually answers start to appear. When I have an image that is full of bold colors, it means that this year, I will make big sturdy strides ahead. Another year, I had two blocks of color side by side while one of them would pour into the other and from this I sensed that I would meet a man who would enrich my life, which I did. |
After a while it becomes an inspiring tool to have answers coming to you from images. When I got married I was drawn to draw an image of us, what our love represented, and from this image I felt something sensitive and new trying to be borne. It was like the picture was asking me what love do you want to nurture in this relationship? |
Even if I cannot see it right away, eventually, I can sense the message from the picture. I've known of how art can be used for therapy but to use art to find answers is something that I never heard of and have developed my own methods. This is self-coaching with art. Having another opinion can sometimes help clarify the meaning of the drawing and shed some light on my situation.
I still cannot fully explain how this works. The colors, shapes, and energy from the drawing emit a message that I use for guidance. If the answers are hidden in my unconscious then it is drawn from there via my right brain which has no filters and is more or less a direct channel of wisdom and collective consciousness from the unconscious.
This year for my birthday ritual, I drew this turquoise and green circle of light. It invites me to my future and says it is heading into a totally new direction so let go of the old and the outworn.
I place it on the wall behind my computer so I can look at it everyday. It is so calming and rejuvenating.
One day I hope to make these processes into self-coaching workshops and so I'm doing what I can today to make that happen. That would be a dream come true.
