The surface is not the only experience intended for us but something is happening deeper to trigger this ephemeral business. For me, the truth usually doesn’t come out until I have thirty accumulated reasons to be upset about. I have to set time aside to think about what ticks me. We are not here not to consume our time like fast food meals, scoff at people, or be angry at them, but to better ourselves. To reach higher. To do something good in the world. So few people talk about this.
Unfortunately I have not had the experience of working in an environment where personal growth takes priority over crisis management, and much later in life I realized that everyone is just human and no body is perfect and so you are the only person who can be your own master. When that realization hit me, I also was already way down the line in my career and a bit too old to be depending on others for direction but not too old to stop living. Most people do not seek to lead but more or less just want the status of being a leader. Then where does that leave us - still going in circles in the same loop? No one is managing our external and internal crises. We are still left vulnerable and raw in both worlds with no answers of how to solve this craziness called life.
It won’t get resolved in a day or a month or maybe at all, but instead we learn how to move through it.
It’s not about what you are doing. You can be doing something that is validated from others as being the “acceptable” way of living but it comes from finding what keeps your passion alive. That can be some thing that doesn’t make you money at first. It could be developing more meaningful relationships, furnishing a new home, moving to a new city, or rearranging your wardrobe. And it changes after time. It’s fresh. Fulfilling that desire could lead to more inner peace and clarity in your life, which can lead to making better decisions and finding more happiness.
It’s about keeping up with what your desires are and staying contemporary in how you feel. In other words, if there is a problem address it immediately. The less baggage you have the more fulfilled you will feel, the more energy you will have to do the things that matter to you, and the more enjoyment you will get out of those experiences.
Try to look at life through the lens of non-judgement for a while to find the things that really matter to you. It takes conscious practice to look through the lens of hope over fear, possibility over battle, solution over reaction.
And when you feel the grasp of joy overcoming you that this is the most obvious and positive next step, before you take the leap, take small action on it some more. Taking the pill without thinking could lead an immature, misfortunate situation where the form was not as perfect as the essence it was drawing you to see. Purpose is alive in each moment and the overwhelming feeling of excitement is its call but by taking some test actions to see if this is where happiness stems from, you are not just seeking the result, the new shores it takes you, you will have found the outcomes of accumulations of actions you took with the conviction that this was right for me. You will not be inebriated by the lust of glamour.
Knowing you made the right choice is seeking an inherent right answer internally, not externally. Consciously make choices by listening to your gut. Making choices based on a bad gut feelings will take you back a few steps. Take time to savour this process. Don't settle for blankness. And don't be afraid to make a decisive change if that is what is called for. You will regret the decision of not doing so, years later when it is too late to change.
Go for the wisdom this is teaching you and to finding your own inner compass. That is true happiness.
